I will be crossing the border at Eliat...will I need to have passport sized photo in advance or will my USA passport be sufficient? Also does anybody know the current early morning bus times from Eliat to Jerusalem and will that bus stop at Ein Gedi? Thanks again as usual for all your help!

You won't need anything to cross into Israel except your passport.

You don't say what time of year you will be travelling...

Currently (winter schedule) there are 4 buses a day directly to Jerusalem, the first leaving Eilat at 0700. There are 2 twenty minute breaks. Don't know if one of them will be in Ein Gedi or not, but the bus does have a stop there.

All schedules here: http://www.egged.co.il/Eng/

Welcome back.

Make sure of the crossing closing times.
That particular crossing closes at 8pm & opens at 6 am.
Just in case.
Also about 2km up the road, (once you get on the Main road,Eilat-Masada-En Gedi) there is an quite big rest stop, where many buses stop. Has restaurant/coffe shop and small supermarket. Lots of funny looking plastic cows dotted around.

As an American you only need you passport to enter Israel.

There are 4 buses a day from Eila to Jerusalem, bus number 444. The times are: 7:00am, 10:00am, 2:15pm, 5:00pm. They do stop at Ein-Geddi. FRom Eilat to Ein Geddi is about 3:00 hours ride. There 4 stops in Ein Geddi. So, make sure you know where exactly do you want to go there. If you want to go to the spa and beach, you should get off at the first one.

Notice that the bus stop on the road from Eilat to the north (road 90). So, you don't need to get to Eilat in order to take it. You will need to get to the main road from the border terminal and take the bus from there.
