Posted: Sat February 7, 2009 06:21 PM UTC
Hi
my husband and I and 2 children 10 and 12 are going to morocco on 14th feb for 10 days. We want to spend 2 days in marrakesh then hire a car and head to ouarzazate then maybe onto zagora.
Any handy tips anyone has on the best places to stop, places to stay, and car hire
would be gratefully received.
What is telouet like? worth a look?
thanks

Hi well welcome to VT and with an ID name that hoping that youll be like us and stick around VT for a long time to come remind you of your travels here?! - as you are new to VT?then okay youve not yet discovered the next best thing about VT to the forums is the Travel Guides system - so if you click on my ID name you will see a list of my Travel Pages which includes a number of these places in Morocco that youre wanting to see - or if you click on the Travel Guides link above you will be taken to a destinations link and from there you can go to pages on those destinations put together by VTers in those listings.
These have been listed in order of rankings which is where the ratings system comes in - and most VTers really appreciate having their tips rated - and comments about their efforts left for them on their pages.

I have quite a large page on Telouet as it one of my favourite places and areas in Morocco. So I of course would recommmend that you go to my pages and have a good read and roam around. along with the rest of the places along your route! Then come back for any further questions and gaps and so on.

I pwrsonally recommmend the Lonely Planet and the DK eyewitness guide as guidebooks to take with you when travelling Morocco and also for good preparation.

Ive just come back this morning - its lovely of course but its chilly - quite a lot of snow around the mountains which makes these areas rather cool. so take clothing that you can layer - but also thats also what I love about going by rental car - enjoying the cars heating and weather protection system as you go along!

I would recommend a circuit - along to Telouet and on to Ait Benhaddou, Ouarzazate, Dades and Todra Gorges, Kelaa Mgouna, Rissani and Merzouga, then back via Alnif, Nkob, Zagora and back up to Agdz and then back to Ouarzazate and back to Marrakech and Essaouira - or from Agdz go via Tazemahkt to Talouine to Tarodant to Tafroute via Igrhem and then up to Agadir and back to Marrakech - which is also a rather scenic road.

or if you have time, which I doubt you would!, from Agadir to Essaouira to Marrakech - which despite what people say about the extra kms it is a very scenic road - and you could try to see some Bald Ibis around Tamri.

Angie babe is the expert, visit all her moroccan pages and it will be better tan any Guide Book. The DK Eyewitness Travel Guides are the best guide books for most countries.

We visited Marrakech, Fes etc Sept'08, you will have a fabulous time. Take care in the Marrakech Madina, could be very crowded, make certain you keep close to your children and they do not get lost.

Good Luck,
Mike
