We are arriving in Cairns March 31 & staying for 5 days. What is the weather like that time of year & is it a good time for diving & snorkleing? We are actually staying in Port Douglas.

Hi as a Cairns local we are experiencing the biggest wet season for many years.

March is still the cyclone season so the weather is very unpredictable.

Port Douglas is only an hours drive north up the coast.

Most boats go out to the reef every day of the year but once again they may need to cancel if the visibility or the weather is bad.

Its warm and humid. Fantastic place to stay at that time of year in Port Douglas. I had a great time snorkelling and diving on the reef around March a few years back. Shop around for the Barrier Reef boat trip. The big boats are not necesarily the best option. I went with a small operator and had a great time :)
