Tampa Why are rental cars so expense the week of Feb 17th thru Mar 4th

It seems that the daily cost of renting a car is between $70-$90 dollars for Feb 17th and the 2 weeks following... What is going on other then spring training?

Hi - don't know what's going on but I just checked Travelocity. The cheapest rate for the 2+ weeks is total $513 - $31 a day.... (It was with Alamo)

Weekly rate (applies to each 7 day period)
2 week(s) @ $187.62 $375.24
1 extra day(s) @ $31.27 $31.27

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Subtotal $406.51
Taxes and Fees $107.12

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Total: $513.63

if i recall the Daytona 500 auto race and the Daytona 200 bike race are in those time frames, so all car rentals go up along the I-4 corridor too.One possible explanation.

however, entreprise, dollar, alamo budget car rentals should provide some decent rates.

I think it is a Spring Break week. I needed a car for a one day on Feb 8th and then 13th - 16th. It was cheaper to get a car for 8 days from the 8th than for 3 days from the 13th.

There are the Garparilla distance runs: on Feb 28 and Mar. 1. These are major races with world class runners competing - 5K, 10K, Marathon and Half-marathon. This might be part of the reason. Lots of demand for rental cars.
