Can anyone advise if there is cheap air carrier from Salamanca to La Rochelle, or if a fairly fast train service is available. I will be travelling in May. Thank you.

check the renfe.es schedule, there is a train to the french border than switch at hendaye or irun for France section. i do not know of any air. never taken neither thus. usually go there by car.

found out this airline easyjet can take you from madrid or Bilbao which has salamanca kinda in the middle, you can get to these cities by train at renfe site

This is possibly a crazy idea....but...if you can get to Madrid airport for a morning flight (08.30) to London Stansted then you can take another RYAN AIR flight from Stansted to La Rochelle ! Would get to La Rochelle by 17.50 ! Sounds a bit mad I agree.

By train there is a train that starts at Lisbon and ends at the French border at Hendaye. One overnight service called SUREX and one during the day that leaves Salamnca at 10.30 and gets to Hendaye at 17.13.
