We are on a cruise, so just have one day in Belize. We want to take a water taxi out to cay caulker. Is there any snorkeling possible from the beach rather than a tour. We have been out to the reef on another trip, but would like to spend more of the day on cay caulker with just a little snorkeling. Time is important as we must get back to the ship.

yes, the snorkelling in caye caulker is very good and you can do it from the beach.
the island is tiny and you can walk from one end to the other in less than half an hour.

The only snorkeling you can do off the beach is at the split. There isn't much to see and the currents are quite strong so you have to be careful. We saw some barracuda and smaller fish hanging around. To make it worth your while you have to take a boat out, but chilling out on Caye Caulker is a lot of fun in itself!
