Hi - My friend and I will be travelling to Luxor (flying Gatwick-Luxor) at the beginning of March. Last time I went to Cairo and got my visa at the airport when we landed - bit of a scrum but manageable! I see from the Egyptian Consulate web site that you can send off for one (or apply in person!) but that would mean sending off passport to them - I definitely do not want to do that! So is it possible to get them at the airport - I am assuming that Luxor airport may be smaller than Cairo and therefore less of an ordeal. Any help/tips/details of cost etc., would be very gratefully received.

You can get a visa at the Luxor airport, no problem.

I will be arriving at Cairo on 3/10 - I also read that you should have no problems at the airports. Since we will be arriving very late at night we chose to get visa from Chicago Egyptian consulate - mailed passports, applications, return envelope and $15 per passport. Received passports back in about 1 week. No problems.

Hi thanks for all replies - they have been really helpful. We will get one at the airport - can anyone tell me how much they are - I have been told that you pay in English or US dollars? Also presumably all we have to do is just present our passports?

The visa/bank windows are open 24hrs. You would have had no problems, even arriving late at night, but it's good to know that the process is that easy in Chicago.

The price is $15 or you can present a British 10 pound note and get the change. You don't present your passport. You just hand over the money. They give you the visa, which is a full page sticker, and you peel the back off and stick it on any available page of your passport. Then you proceed to passport control.

Just remember, get the visa first, then head to the passport line. If not, you'll have to start all over again.

It's super easy to get a visa at Cairo airport. What happened to you ?

Before you get in line for entry into the country there will be a little booth pick-up the entry visa there for $15.00. You should have no problem whatsoever.
