Bratislava Russia train tickets in Bratislava
Posted: Thu January 29, 2009 04:24 AM UTC
Hello.

We are agroup of 6 people planning a trip to eastern Europe by august 2009. I found some information from travelers, that is possible and cheaper to buy a train ticket from Moscow to St Petersburg, in Bratislava.

If this information is true, I have some questions about:

I have to buy also a round trip ticket from Bratislava to Moscow, in order to buy the Moscow-St Petersburg?
I have to be citizen of Slovakia or any other European country to buy it.
Should I have to book in advance this trip by internet with a travel agency or ticket office in Bratislava?
Or is possible just to walk in and buy the tickets the day I’ll be there.
Can I buy and make at the same time a reservation for specific date, train and 1st or 2nd class berth?
And last, where to find the ticket prices and options in the internet.

Thanks

Francisco

Hi Francisco,
I am a slovak citizen, but never heard about this. We are going to Russia (Transib) this summer, on June. But we´ll buy tickets only from Bratislava to Brest (Belarus) - the border town between Poland and Belarus. The reason is clear...the ticket prices are much more cheaper in Belarus,or Russia, than in Slovakia. I know just price for this trip. Bratislava - Brest (Belarus) aproximately 70-80 euros, 2nd class, one way, no need to buy return ticket. You can buy this ticket personally on ticket office at the train station. Just show you up. You can buy tickets by internet only for domestic routes in Slovakia.
BTW. where did you find this information? It´s interested for me too.

Hi guys!

I don't think that a simple Moscow-St Petersburg ticket is cheaper in Slovakia.

There is a great deal however if you go all the way from Slovakia to St Petersburg by train and even better deal if you travel further than St Petersburg and/or come back by train to Slovakia. The magic word is "Citystar Russia"! This type of ticket is sold only in Slovakia(and apparently in Serbia, but I have no exact infos about this). With this ticket your grup of 6 men could travel from Slovakia to St Petersburg and back for 100 euros, actually you could go as far as Vladivostok for the same price! The catch is that you still have to pay quite a lot for the sleeper surcharge and you cannot travel in the cheaper platzkartniy(3rd class)wagons.

See all infos on this website:
http://citystarticket.blogspot.com/2007/07/citystar-prices.html

Peter, it might be a good deal for your Transsiberian trip too! Train tickets in Russia are quite expensive nowdays. It's not as cheap as it was a few years ago and much more expensive than in Ukraine!

Peter, if you have a little time you could ask at the railway station if the Citystar ticket price is correct on the website! Dakujem!
