Hi - thinking of coming down to Philadelphia for the weekend. What museums/indoor places should we visit? Anything special going on this weekend? Thanks.

Philly has a good art museum (Rocky ran up the steps of it in the first Rocky movie). Also, there is a great little art museum in the suburbs called the Barnes museum. You need a car to get to it and you have to reserve tickets in advance, but it has one of the best collections of Impressionist art in the world.

Hi Donna! Sure, you MUST go to the Philly Museum of Fine Arts...the one with the steps. Along that same boulevard, Ben Franklin Blvd, see the Rodin Museum, which has an Original "Thinker." Walk around Rittenhouse Square, which is their little equivalent of Washington Square Park, but without the Arch (of course!).

Donna, what you need to do is hang out with ME (and Keith) because we should be around Philly this weekend too! Anyway, on the museum question, there are lots--Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Institute for Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania archeological museum, Mutter Museum (medicine and medical oddities, not my favorite but a lot of people like it), African American art museum, etc. If you are into contemporary art/galleries, look also at http://www.inliquid.com/index.frame.html. For other arts listings, see http://www.philadelphiaweekly.com/listings/

Donna, you MUST go to Audrey Claire, 276 South 20 St, Philly 19103, a few blocks west of Rittenhouse Square. You have to go there. Delicious food, modestly priced entrees ($20-25), excellent service in an intimate storefront setting. I've been there 4 or 5 times over the last few years. And the bathroom is so cute, with its old-time door and antique medicine cabinet. Walk around the posh downtown area, on Charles Street and such, near the waterfront. I never stay overnight in Philly; I just drive back to NYC in under 2 hours. It's like NYC Lite, like a detox center for me. Some Philadelphians refer to it as the 6th Borough! Go to gophila.com.

I also like the Rodin. It's been a couple of years since I visited this museum but it's a gem. Recently I found a new website called greatgirltrips that listed out itineraries--there is one for Philly that you may find helpful.
