What types and fares are available for tourists going from the Santiago Airport to Vina del Mar? I am going on a cruise out of Valparaiso, but first staying several days in Vina.

The cheapest way to travel from Santiago to Viña del Mar or Valparaiso is to take a bus. From the airport you need to get to Pajaritos metro station (either take the Centropuerto or Tur Bus buses that go to Pajaritos or take a taxi if you prefer). At Pajaritos metro station you can purchase a bus ticket at either Pullman or Tur Bus ticket counter. Buses leave regularly (every 15 minutes) so there is no need to book in advance. It is possible to take a taxi to Viña but this will probably cost you more than $200.

Do you have any favorite places in the Vina area (like wineries or other sites) where one could spend a few days?

The wineries are located between Santiago and Viña in the Casablanca Valley. The only one I have actually visited was the House of Morandé and I really went to the restaurant only. It is possible to visit the wineries in the area though however this would complicate things with regard to your transportation between Santiago and Viña as the buses I recommended do not stop here.

Once you are in Viña I suggest that you spend at least a day walking around different parts of Valparaiso. Cerro Concepcion and Cerro Artilleria are two of my favourites. Take the asensores up the hills and walk around for a bit.

In Viña itself you could go to the flower clock and perhaps walk around the hill above it where there are some historical buildings and castles. Unfortunately they aren´t open for public viewing. You should also go to the Muelle Vergara (which is closed) and walk from there along the boardwalk and look at the craft markets there.

I suggest you take a bus or taxi to Higuerillas (on the way to ConCon) and have a seafood lunch there.

the fares are cheap (do not recall exactly), the bus is easy, and you can purchase on site, people will handle your bags for a peso::nice trip indeed
wines, you can go east from Santiago and visit Concha y Toro, is excellent and one of the reputables ones there, you can go by metro and taxi, i went with locals by car.
