Hi,
Just wondering does anyone have any info on getting from Vientiane to either Siem Reap or Phnom Penh by land and relatively quickly!!! Don't really have time to travel through southern Laos and don't want to fly if I can help it.

Is there any way of doing it in less than a day? If I could travel over night it would be perfect...any sleeper/VIP buses going between the two capitals?Thanks

It will take you at a minimum, 2days to reach Phnom Penh from Vientiane if you're travelling overland through Laos. The fastest land option is to go to Siem Reap overland through Thailand. You can go across to Nong Khai and take a VIP bus to Khorat (or Khon Khaen first) where you can transfer for a train or VIP bus to Arranyaprathet and cross over into CAmbodia aat the Poipet border where you can get forward transport to Siem Reap. There is even a Vientiane to Khon Khaen bus that leaves the Morning Market Bus Station at 8am.

BUT in order to reach either PP or SR in 1 day from Vientiane, you would have to fly either Lao Airlines, Vietnam Airlines or perhaps Bangkok Airway's if they're still ofering the foights via their subsidiary Siem Reap Airways (which was 'closed' for a while).
