Okay, for a more realistic answer, I would say that July sounds good. It is about the middle of the dry season. Since much of the road is dirt, I would think that dust is preferable to slick mud when there are sheer dropoffs like those next to the road. There is also the place where the San Juan Waterfall hits the road. I was there in September and the waterfall was only a heavy spray. I don't know what it would be like after a big rain during the rainy season. Of course, if you drink enough chicha before you leave, you may not care, LOL. I have to bring that up since your VT name always reminds me of a strange coincidence. Chicha in the Andes is a fermented drink, but in Malaysia, cicak (pronounced the same) is a gecko lizard!

always! it is always very good to dare "the death road". as you say that you are planning to go in july, that is perfect. is the dry season and now, the death road is even safer because the traffic jam is not as hard as in the past anymore.
so good luck and enjoy the death road.

i agree that it's always a good time. even in the rainy season, you get to ride underneath waterfalls. but in the dry season it'll probably be a bit safer. get ready to have achy hands.
if you have time, i recommend a day or 2 stay in Coroico at the end of the ride. you can often arrange with the agency that you do the tour with to pick you back up and take you back to la paz at no extra cost.

make sure to check out the bikes before you go. the company that we used to use was called Adrenaline something i think. they had really good bikes.
