Re: Lion breeding project gweru or victoria falls- anyone been/going?? Posted: Tue January 27, 2009 08:09 AM UTC
I was in Victoria Falls this October just gone and while we did not spend time,I assume ,volunteering at the lion breeding project we did go walking with the lions with Safpar. It was an amazing experience and despite what the critics might say, for me it was a very worthwhile project. This was my 3rd visit to Vic Falls in the past 10 years and I can see how the place has changed from prosperous to dirt poor and that was very upsetting for me. You may have heard that hospitals are overcrowded but why would you in your right mind ever go to one!!! If you are sick, fly out to Jo'Burg immediately.I have spent many trips to Africa and never been ill, that is not to say everyone is the same. Take precautions, malaria tablets are a must and you need to see your Doctor to find out what is best for you. At the moment cholera is mostly in Harare I think but you need to check on that. I would not go to a place with cholera but that is just me. I would also not pay 400GBP for 4 weeks either ( I assume that is airfares too) but again that is me.The most important thing if you do go is learn from the experience(and I don't just mean with the lions) and have fun.Learning and enjoying is everything.
