Kruger National Park kruger safari
Posted: Mon January 26, 2009 02:31 PM UTC
Hi. We are planning a kruger trip in august. We want to do a 4-5 night safari which includes rest camps/lodges and private game reserves. I want info on
1. which car would be best for rental for 6-8 people which would give good views to everyone. We dont want people leaning over others and missing out on good sightings.
2. I see that the bunglows/ guest houses in all southern rest camps are fully booked already except the huts & tents which have 'communal ablutions". Can anyone tell me where these toilets are located, are they close to the huts? and how many people are they shared between.
Thx

is a great place- have you tried booking there? (Ngwenya )
See my VT page-I have given tips and pictures of the lodge. Its fantastic.

We rented a Toyata "people mover" which comfortably seats about 8 people. Its high of the ground, and easy to see out of. Picture in my Kruger National Park page of the car.

yes in fact i had looked up the place. it seems great but i was a little hesitant about it only because it seems a longish drive from Nelspruit airport. Didnt want to lose too much time driving outside Kruger. How long does it take realistically to get to it?
thx Lyn

It is only 100km, mostly along an excellent road, about 1 hour to drive there.

1. If you want 6-8 people not leaning over each other, you need 6-8 rows of seats - that is a fairly big bus! I suppose 4 rows of seats will be really comfortable, 3 rows a bit cramped. Have seen families renting Mercedes Vito busses, which looked very comfortable, but probably expensive. Volkswagen T5 and Mercedes Vito busses are available but they only have 3 rows of seats. Toyota have larger Quantums, but they are popular as taxis and hence a car-jack target. Where do you plan to put all the luggage? Have also seen family groups in 2 smaller vehicles with "walkie-talkie" type radio between them - that made a lot of sense to me. (Those radios are sold (in pairs) in our hardware stores for use on construction sites).

2. My estimate is that 90% of the huts and tents are within 50 meters of an ablution or kitchen block. Those communal ablutions are typically very clean and well-serviced.

The tented camps are just fine an you get a real "bush" experience. That is where I am taking my guests. The ablutions are very close by.

A Toyota quantum vehicle is 100% for 8 people, very easy to druve and visibility for gameviewing is excellent. Oh... and if you are a group of that size, it may be much easier to have yourself a guide... gets rid of all the hassles and tired ness and the driver does not have to watch the road all the time.
