Two day trip to Zagora Posted: Sat January 24, 2009 01:54 PM UTC
We are spending 6 days in Marrakech in May and are interested in a two day trip to the dunes near Zagora- drive out from Marrakech, camel ride, sleep under the stars, then back to Marrakech. We may go by ourselves, or invite two of our friends to join us. Can anyone recommend a company/trip? We would like to book ahead of time over the internet. Thank you in advance!

I recommend desertcameltrips.com for such desert trips; you may also do the trip on your own but you'll need more then 2days as you are passing through this road for the first time. that will make staff lazy and i guess you won't make it in a limited time. and you may check out VT's pages about the main idea.

Hi, I did an overnight camel ride, sleeping in bivouacs in the Sahara from Zagora in 2006. Although this was part of an 8 day tour with Exodus travel (UK based), it is possible to arrange this through the local company Asmaa Caravane Bivouac, which is based next to the Hotel Kasbah Asmaa in Zagora Tel.044 847599 fx 044 847527
We were glad to use the facilities of this hotel after our trip - Shower, swimming pool, food and drink - Bliss!!
Please check my Zagora page, for my account, tips and photos of my camel/ desert experience. http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/6f35e/201b6c/0/
Please feel free to contact me for more info.
Have A Great Trip- I look forward to reading all about it.
Best Wishes,
Sue

I agree with smartidea, doing the trip in two days by yourself will be tricky. the route over the tichi'n'tichka (up to 2260 above sea level)is in some parts bumpy and narrow. You will be much more comfortable on an accompanied trip. And it's still going to be a long drive.
I recommend Maroconline. They are very reliable (www.maroconline.ma)

So, i agree wit divandrea, it's much more comfortable on an accompanied trip. But if you are arriving in Marrakesh, the best way is to get a local agency. Have a look at "sahara expedition" www.saharaexpe.ma, which is organizing group tours with discount prices.
Even if your prefer nicest quality, one guide driver and your own vehicle: "Maroc en Liberté" www.marocenliberte.com, a small agency, very friendly and professional. Their ar also able to arrange nice prices too

Hi and thanks for sharing your experiences of what can happen out there - I am sorry that you have had such a disappointing experience though but for me it is reassuring the faith Ihave in my own information, quality connections and recommendations - even for Moroccans they get ripped off when they dont go by careful reputations and word of mouth for recommendations is a big deal there.
So that the persons who do the recommending have to take some responsibility for their word of mouth!
Morocco can be hard work in this sense but it is otherwise a beautiful and with the right preparation a very rewarding country to visit!

I hope you have talked about your problems with the owner of the agency though - unless the person you had problems with was the owner!
have a read through my tips and see if they are of some help too and get back to me for any further help I can be for getting a trip together and providing some good connnections as well.
