hi!,
me and 4 girl friends are planning on going to leeds we are travelling from hull we want to come over to leeds for a change for a day (most probs this is a saturday)i would be happy if any one could reccommend things to do whislt we are over for the day in leeds other than shopping??? we would be shopping but we would pretty much like to do something extra than shopping whilst we are over in leeds.. we will be in leeds till late evening we wont be staying over the night. and we dont drink alchol

From what you say I'd assume you don't have a car, which is a shame as there are the beautiful dales to see.

I'd recommend York which has a lot to offer, from the sightseeing point of view. There are many stately homes around Leeds, but these are a way out and you'd need a car.

For a cheap, good meal without alcohol try JD Wetherspoons - they do some really nice hot choc and coffee

I'd rather go to York as well. You'll find plenty of shopping there, and there are far more central sites to visit. Have a look at my York page for ideas: walking the city walls, museums, Clifford's Tower, the Shambles and, of course, the beautiful Minster.

You will have no problems at all finding make-up shops in Leeds....it's a pretty big shopping area with all the usual chains etc.

You can get the coach from Hull to Leeds (last one returns at 18:20). Journey takes 1h 40m, 9GBP return. Book online on www.nationalexpress.com Coaches to York from Hull mostly go via Leeds, and the time the journey takes means a daytrip by coach is not feasible.

www.nationalrail.co.uk will give you train times and fares for both journeys.

York is a better city to visit

the thing about york is that weve already been to york we wanted to go somewhere else for a different :)), but still thanks alot for your reccommendations thank you

Transpennine Express have a sale on on line tickets at the moment and you can travel on some Hull to Leeds trains for just £5.00. Call in at the Interchange in Hull or have a look at the website.
Leeds is good for shopping but other than that there is only the Royal Armories military museum and the medical museum to see. The medical museum is quite interesting - have a look athttp://www.thackraymuseum.org/ - it is actually more interesting than it seems.
Other than that why not take a train to Saltaire - this is a living Victorian village with shops and art galleries - have a look at the Saltaire website - there are also some pages here on VT/ You take a Skipton bound train (every 15 minutes) and there is a station at Saltaire village.
