Hotel Central Posted: Fri January 23, 2009 11:25 PM UTC
Hi. I'm looking for a cheap, centrally located hotel in Annecy. I came across the Hotel Central (6 Bis Rue Royale 74000 Annecy / http://www.hotelcentralannecy.com/index.htm) and am now wondering if anyone knows what it is like. It's mentioned as a cheap option in the Lonely Planet Guide to France, so I guess it should be OK. I would however like to hear from anyone who has actually stayed there, especially recently. I'd like to avoid getting there and finding out the place is a construction site. I saw some photos (though I don't know how old the images are) and it looks as if the hotel needs some work done.

We've stayed at Les Terrasses in central Annecy. You can walk to the Old Town, the train station and the lake easily. It's quiet, clean and very reasonable. Here's a web site but it's a long one. http://www.logis-de-france.fr/uk/recherch/index-fast.php?id=12&lang=EN&action=fastadvsearch&logis=Annecy&x=12&y=8
If you can't copy and paste that long URL, go to http://www.logis-de-france.fr/uk/ and type Annecy into the search window. Choose Les Terrasses and you will get your information and photos. You can click on their web site but it's entirely in French so you may prefer the Logis de France web site.
BTW, there's a quite nice restaurant there although we always eat at Beau Soleil . . . only because they named it for us. LOL

Not stayed there, but been to Annecy several times in my life ::) beautiful lake town ,close to very nice skiing.
we usually trvl by car in Europe,so we stay outside Annecy at this hotel

2 stars but really fantastic near the lake coming into the city at the village of Veyrier.
in addition to searching the pages of VT for Annecy, you can look at this site that I use in France for that city/region, its in english, but you see more and beautiful pictures in the French version

you can search for a hotel that suit your budget, there.
the aforemention Logis de France is a good site, with wonderful properties too, that I use to sometimes.

You will find many such hotels in France. If they put some work in it which means modernisation, you would not pay 50 but 150 Euro. I still think most old hotels with very dated furniture, wallpaper etc. are clean and ok for the price, so I would not worry too much. I have very often stayed at such places and, let's say, out of 300 nights I would have fled the scene only twice or so.
I just try to remember the names of the hotels I have stayed in Annecy... One was the Kyriad Annecy Centre, is also 2 star but more modern than the Hotel Central. You could also check out the Ibis which is always ok. But Rue Royale where the Central is located is really a good location.
Once I also stayed at the Beauregard but this is really well out of town, so you would need a car to get there.

I live to close to Annecy to experiment myself the hotels and too far to know them through locals! However, I have looked at my "Guide du Routard" (only in French, very reliable for hotels and restaurants).
They do not mention hotel Central but mention "Les Terrasses" in the category "medium prices". They say it has been recently renewed and has an excellent ratio price vs quality.
