Chiang Mai Tuk Tuk during hot season
Posted: Wed January 21, 2009 04:27 PM UTC
Would love to hire a Tuk Tuk for local tour of Chiang mai. Since we have no choice but to travel during the hot season...any suggestions. Do want to do a trek..any ideas how to travel during that time but without getting heat exhaustion. Any places to swim in the northern part...waterfall..should stay in accomodation with a/c or pool. Doesn't have to be expensive...just clean.

Thanks

Most of the guesthouses in CM have rooms with a/c, although the cleanliness varies. Just make sure you see the room first. Virtually any guesthouse or travel agent in the city can arrange a whole slew of activities, including jungle treks. The trek I did had a waterfall that we swam in as well as a white water rafting option. Keep in mind though that most of these treks are multi-day and the accommodation will be very basic, with no a/c. Just make sure you have a sufficient amount of water and you'll be fine. Additionally, I would suggest renting a motorbike and driving up to Pai. It's an incredibly friendly town and a beautiful 4 hour drive through the jungle. Damn, I wish I was there right now!!

Thanks for the tips. Too scared to drive a motor bike. Any tips on which trek to take. Already stayed with the Lisu..so would like another choice. Is it really buggy in the Jungles?

Thanks

I don't really know the differences with the companies that run the treks. You might have to just spend an hour or so walking around to different travel agents and comparing them. Some have the rafting option, some have elephant riding, some have jungle survival courses, etc. Just shop around and ask questions :)

I used bug spray with Deet and I don't remember the bugs being a problem at all.
