George Town Snorkeling
Posted: Tue January 20, 2009 06:45 AM UTC
Hi there.

I'm not interested in swimming with stingrays. I've already seen them in the Virgin Islands, and they scare me. I would like to see some colorful tropical fish and some living coral. (Previous snokeling in VI had only dead coral.)

Is there any of that near George Town, CI?

I noticed your post and sorry I cannot help with Cayman islands as I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting. But I was curious about the comment about only seeing dead coral in the VI. I have seen destroyed coral in a couple locations in the VI after storms and hurricanes but have found for the most part that the VI has the most prolific coral growth that I have seen in the caribbean and much better than I saw in Hawaii. Please don't give up on the VI because of one disappointing experience. If you would like suggestions where to find sea life at it's best I could recommend numerous locations in the VI where you can find it. As for rays, I know you will also find them in the southern caribbean. I have swam with them in Curacao, Aruba and Barbados. I know that this will not relieve your fears of them but they are quite pleasant creatures to be around and they don't pose a threat to you if treated with respect. Hope you find a destination for snorkeling amidst vibrant coral. It is an awesome experience.
