Taxi fare from Cusco to Ollantaytambo? Posted: Mon January 19, 2009 11:22 PM UTC
Can somebody tell me what is a reasonable taxi fare from Cusco airport to Ollantaytambo. My hotel in Ollantaytambo is charging me USD 45. Is that correct/reasonable? Or do you think I am being charged too much.

that is definitely reasonable. considering that the petrol in peru is more expensive than in my country.

Thanks for your replies.
dansak: Should I book a taxi at an office inside the Cusco airport? Or should I just go outside the airport and get a taxi? What would be a reasonable price for this Cusco to Ollantaytambo trip.

Re: Taxi fare from Cusco to Ollantaytambo? Posted: Tue January 20, 2009 08:17 AM UTC
I remember I PAID about 70 PEN (August 2008 - today 70 Novo Sol = 22 USD) from Ollantaytambo station to Cusco at my hotel. I saw also some minubus, the price was about 30/35 PEN. One thing I noticed is the leg from Cusco to Ollantaytambo by train is more expensinve (and quicker) then if is done by taxi. I would also suggest almost a day at Ollantaytambo area.
You can ask at any taxi in Cusco, you do not need to book it in advance, one or two driver may say no as it take long, but sure someone will say yes. To be sure you can contact DIRECT the drivers the day before.

PDR1:
It could be expensive if you book a taxi at an office inside the Cusco airport.
If you go outside the airport and go to the "estacion de buses que van a Ollantaytambo" = bus station which goes to Ollantaytambo, it woulbe really very cheap.
Last year I have done it, in that place you can take a car (can travel only four persons). I paid around 10 US dollars (per person). I don't know if right now the prices are the same.

Hi Sandro,
Your reply is helpful for me too, as I am also looking at how to get to Ollantaytambo from Cusco airport... so are you saying that outside of Cusco airport I can find the bus station ? I just have to walk out of the airport and I will see the bus station ?
Thanks
Maria

Re: Taxi fare from Cusco to Ollantaytambo? Posted: Sun March 15, 2009 05:09 PM UTC
I know this information is late for your previous question, but will hopefully be of some use for future searchers. You should pay no more than s/. 15 ($5) to get from Cusco to Ollantaytambo. That would be the price on a private van with no more than 6 other passengers, or you could find a taxi to take you for the same price. I took a 3 hour van ride from the beach back to Arequipa for the same price. Tourist often get ripped off if you go through hotels or agencies. There is a street off Sol Ave. called Rosaria. If you walk 3 blocks to the west, you can find services taking you for that much. You could even hop in a combi if adventurous for s/.3. Travel is cheap, don't get taken advantage of.

Hi Maria
The bus station is not closer to Cusco airport, just take a cab, it costs 3 or 4 US dollars, it lasts no more than 15 minutes.
Good trip Maria
