My daughter and I will be driving - traveling Jan.27 (from Pittsburgh) to Newark Airport and stay at a hotel near the airport. We want to go into NYC the 28th. sightsee and see a show. Then after the show head back to the hotel.
Which means of travel is best from EWR to the city? I found "Supershuttle", sounds reasonable - any help would be appreciated. We want to keep costs down. I have been to the city, she hasn't. The transportation is the only tough item to figure out.

Why don't you take the train from Newark Airport to Penn Station? It has to be two or three times as fast as SuperShuttle, because SuperShuttle may/will make detours to pick up other people on the way.

A word of caution about Super Shuttle, I've had two bad experiences with them, both on the way to the airport, once in Baltimore and the other going to Newark. The trip to Newark they were extremely late, I made my flight but others in the van with me did not. In Baltimore, they never showed up, I ended up taking a very expensive taxi ride to the airport.

I think the train sounds like a better option, it appears to be cheaper and factoring in traffic and multiple hotel stops, faster.

Dabs is far from the only person to report difficulties with the Super Shuttle. Public transportation is far more reliable.

I can't think of any VT colleagues who would actually REcommend taking that Shuttle! I'm going to Europe next month, and I;ll be taking a CoachUSA bus, from Port Authority Bus Terminal, to Newark for about $15 one way. It's a one-seat ride, stopping at all the terminals. I took that bus in June 2008, to and from Newark, and had no problems at all. Of course, I don't know exactly where your hotel is; you could get to the PATH train in Newark and take that to 6th and 34 St, and stroll over to Broadway. You could take the Amtrak also. WHile I've never taken the Super Shuttle, I understand that it takes many passengers to their far-flung destinations, so that if you're not the 1st or 2d to exit, you're in for a long long ride. The Last Thing you want is to be late for your Broadway show, right?! Bon voyage.

Hello again, We are staying at the Holiday Inn - right off the Jersey turnpike.
We figure, leave the car at the hotel, free shuttle to Newark Airport, and get transportation to NYC. We can catch a Coach USA bus from the airport? And do the buses run late into the evening? We wanted to try a ferry too, any ideas on that?

Hi. Go to CoachUSA.com and check out their schedules. You can take New York Waterway from Manhattan to Hoboken, and you could take the PATH from Hoboken to Newark. I can't be sure, but try NewYorkWaterway.com.
