Chiang Mai Tour/Travel Operator and Hotel Recommendation
Posted: Mon January 19, 2009 01:05 AM UTC
I have lost contact with my previous tour operator so need a recommendation for a reputable travel service located in Chiang Mai. We are there four nights in June and need suggestions for 3 to 4 star hotels as well as transfers to and from airport as well as some touring. Appreciate any knowledgeable help.

For a back up plan you can use some of the info below.

You can get tours real easy in Chiang Mai (same for Bangkok) by just locating the nearest travel agency close to your hotel and checking out their list of popular tours. There are loads of travel agencies. Even some hotels can set you up with tours. Select a tour on the first day and leave the next morning. Often select a tour in the morning and leave that afternoon or evening. Up to you.

At the airport there is a taxi sign up desk too.

Back up hotel that I have used 2 or 3 times. The price may be too low for you though. All rooms have air, hot water, private toilet/shower, TV, security box at lobby and maid service. Easy walk to night market, travel agencies for tours, restaurants, Seven Eleven stores. Flea market across the street at the Thapae Gate. Montri Hotel.

This hotel did provide a free ride back to the airport.

Good luck.

I would definitly do a day trip to the Golden Triangle. We did the booking through a travel shop right next door to the Chiang Mai Plaza hotel. They needed 24 hours notice for this trip.Long day, but well worth it.

You might want to check out Viangbua Mansion here in CM. I've stayed there and found it quite nice, clean, A/C, good coffee bar in the lobby and the downstairs restaurant is convenient too. There is also a great little restaurant diagonally across the street for breakfast and dinner called The Spirit House. The garden there is a wonderful place to have a drink (or eat) while watching the neighborhood go by and be sure to take a look at the focal point in the garden...a chedi that is over 700 years old!

As for tour operators, I would suggest Paul Collins. I use him for driving/translation and tours. You can reach him by email at besttuktuktours@yahoo.com or call his mobile: 0849483315 or Office: 0850484606. Another would be Alice Young at Indigo Chiang Mai Travel. You can check out her web site and contact her on line. Hope this helps, and enjoy your trip. Marie (nannyre)
