Casablanca Booking the Visit of the Hassan II Mosque
Posted: Sun January 18, 2009 05:31 PM UTC
Hello.

Maybe a month ago, when I started planning my Moroccan trip, I found a website where one could book his visit of the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca. However, I did not bookmark it back then and today I tried really hard to find it and I could not. Maybe the problem is that the website was in French and I used only English keywords to look it up in Google. Could anybody try to find it? I guess it might not be necessary to book a visit in advance, but I have already decided on my schedule and I am certain when I will go to the mosque.

Thank you very much

Doesn't seem to be necessary to book. This page has details of tour times etc:

http://www.sacred-destinations.com/morocco/casablanca-hassan-ii-mosque.htm

Or was it a guided tour itinerary?

Hi, No problem get a ticket when you get to the Mosque. It's an interesting place to see but it is modern and lacks the charm and authenticity and atmosphere of the older Mosques. When you've seen it "Get out of Casablanca" it might look romantic in the Humphrey Bogart film but it is aweful believe me. Getbdown to "Essaouira" or back up to "Asilah". They are the places to stay and see. The trains (first class) are cheap comfortable and quick!

PS: In Morocco head for the south and see the real Morocco.

Sorry I beg to disagree! this mosque has been made at enormous cost using materials belonging to or traditional to Morocco and representing Morocco in all its traditions of fine artisanal craftsmanship.

It was an amazing building and was designed not to copy or be compared with 'well aged' mosques but to represent Morocco. This is a great place to see traditional fine design, style and architecture. Well recommended.

Have not seen the need to book when Ive been there. The place is huge and accommodates numerous tour groups.

Thank you all a lot for your help.

Apparently the website that I have seen disappeared mysteriously and I am certain that it was precisely a booking service for the mosque itself and not for an overpriced third-party tour. Maybe people were just ignoring it. So, as you say, I will hopefully have no problems in getting a ticket on the spot.
To Brian: thanks for the description of the mosque, but I liked better the description that Angiebabe provided. The mosque might not be old, but this is the only Moroccan mosque that I will be allowed to see and the only one that seems to be built over the sea water. So I guess it still merits a visit.

Hi thanks, how long do you have to travel in Morocco?
There is a second mosque in Morocco that non-muslims are allowed to visit/enter which is the Tin Mal mosque near TiznTest - just past Asni on the Marrakech to Taroudannt road.

I have tips and pics of it in my Morocco travel page. and a few other things to see as well, on my Morocco travel page and other destinations around the country.
Any helpful forum replies or tips please feel free to click on the 'helpful or not' button at the bottom of each!
All the best to an excellent visit in Morocco!

Hi Angiebabe, of course you are right but my point is that it lacks an atmosphere that you find in the older Mosques. In French we say "Ame".

I personally did not like the mosque. It cost Moroccan toooooooooooooo much money to be built. It is there, you might visit it. especially that this is one of 2 mosques you can visit in morocco.

Casablanca is very unfriendly city. Have a look at my Casablanca page for things to do other than visiting the mosque.

good luck and enjoy your travel
