If it just for a day, and even two you don't really need to bother with a hostel in Tel-Aviv. You can just hop on the train from Haifa and go back at night. It's about 45 minutes ride between Haifa and Tel-Aviv on the train.

Anyway, there is not really a "downtown" in Tel-Aviv. The city is almost all "downtown". So, almost any area will be centrally located. I saw Momo's from the outside and it looked a little shady. I have no idea how it looks on the inside though. I heard good things about "Hayarkon 48" (http://www.hayarkon48.com). It's about 20 meters from the beach. Another place I've heard good things about is the Old Jaffa hostel. It's located in Jaffa which is a little further from other parts of Tel-Aviv, but of course it is much closer to Jaffa which is the best tourist attraction in Tel-Aviv (see: http://www.inisrael.com/oldjaffahostel).

Hello
Well..i dont think theres really a decent hostel in Tel aviv...i stayed at momo's, hayarkon, mugraby and all of them were not clean, breakfast was a desaster,etc...but if i have to pick one of this 3 i would go for Momo's...even this time that i am coming to the holy land ill try the Sky Hostel..

I have stayed at Momo's three times, and never had any problems. The location is great, with an internet cafe across the street, a convenience store next door, and the beach five minutes away. The single rooms I have stayed in have been small, yes, but with clean sheets and the shared bathroom/shower areas have been fine. No aircon but a floor fan in each room, I think for the warmer months. Front desk staff friendly if you are. No problems with other guests.

Hi
I think you will experience TLV differently if you stay the night and it is worth it as nightlife in TLV is much more interesting that in Haifa. I know of a few central hostels; I heard that Hayarkon 48 is the best but there are others just check on the accomodation page of Tel Aviv 4 Fun where you can see a list with adresses and telephone numbers

Wish you a pleasant visit to Israel
