Salvador da Bahia Carnival w/ no $$ possible??
Posted: Sun January 18, 2009 03:46 AM UTC
Hi everyone, I really want to go to Bahia for carnival but I don't really have any extra funds available at the moment. However what I am able to do is get to Bahia. I have friends who work at United air and have gotten me a few free random flights in the past. They told me that getting me to Brazil for Carnival should be no problem. My question is... Is it possible for me to go to Bahia with little to no money?? For you natives or permanent residents living there, do you think it's a good idea? What I have heard so far is "if you can just get there you're set, party it up" Well I have roundtrip tickets so... Should I do it? Oh and btw, I'm 22 male from Hawaii and I'm looking to party HARD if its possible!

Some things I've been pondering are: A. WOOFING (maybe not a good idea since it's so short notice B. hospitality club/couchsurfing (I'm considering this but they require your passport number... Identity theft suddenly pops in my mind so I don't know about either of those..) What are your thoughts...?

Hi, as US citizen there is one thing you require before you go to Brazil, have you already your visa?
Carnival is from Feb19 to Feb25, so you've short time do it if you did not already have it.

Hopefully getting a visa won't take too long but I don't want get the visa until I'm sure that I'm going. Confidence-wise and I have to have a "solid failproof" plan in place. Another reason is because if I don't go then I will have wasted $100 plus on visa documentation that expires in 90 days.

Unless you enjoy living like a Brazilian vagrant (sleeping on a piece of cardboard on the fouled sidewalks), just turning up is a bad idea. Stay home, save and plan for next year.

I don't know if is a good or bad idea. It depends on how much you will carry to Salvador. Do you have money to feed? Do you have money to stay in Salvador's Hostels? Are you going to mount camping on beaches?
I believe you're too late in finding acommodations.. Now a rent bedchamber in Salvador is too expensive. However I am listing some links to use if today is your luck day:

Brazilian beach combers use to work at carnival time. So be caution on Carnival parties.

Carnival (and Reveillon) are the most expensive periods to visit Brazil, those are the only weeks of the year that everybody could rent a room, a their place to get some extra money, it does not matter how many stars or moons, for those periods it's already hard to find a place saving money, it will be harder without $$$, beside all Cassiomaggiore is right, it will be very hard to find an accomodation for next month Carnival in SSA. I did not check any prices and/or availability, but if United has no direct flight to SSA, for sure they go to São Paulo, you'll need and internal flight, Brazil is bigger then Australia, as a Star Alliance Member, United will use TAM and, I know for my own experience, most of the flight with TAM for Carnival to SSA and GIG are sold out soon or with few seat left quite expensive. If I weere you I also would plan better for next year or look for any Caribbean Carnival (some of them during summer so you've more time) where United goes directly and you need any VISA (and save money).
Oi.
