Lima Lima for 6 days......

When visiting Peru, I'm possibly going to be in Lima for 6 days at the most. How sane is it to rent a car as compared to taxi/public transportation and my own 2 feet for this time period? Just curiouse.

the traffic is terrible, some drivers don't respect the laws ... here in Lima, you might get crazy if you drive a car.
It would be the best if you take a cab.

Stupid, not insane.
The shortest day trip from Lima is the drive in a rental car from sanity to insanity.

Public transport is very good in Lima. Collectivos are criss-crossing town every 30 seconds or so and cost virtually nothing.

Taxis are plentiful, just make sure you take green & white taxis with the official sticker outside (ask your hotel what it should look like, I can't remember).

I found using collectivos in Lima a great way to get real close to Peruvians and observe the world inside and outside of those minibuses. At first the routes etc.. are a bit bewildering but once your Lima mind map is built, you'll enjoy hoping on & off all over town.

If you opt to be happy in your trip, avoid driving in Lima. I observed that Limenos are comparable to the crazy drivers you often find in large metropolitan cities (e.g., New York, etc.). As already indicated, use public transport/a cab to navigate around. Goodluck & enjoy beautiful Peru!

Hi,

of course you can rent a car but I don´t really recommend it to you cause is not easy to drive in here. Lima is full of cars, and somehow a chaos.

For your own security you should better hire someone to drive u around.

Good Luck
