The bus is one option, but you need to see if it suits your group.
You have to be very careful in bus stations with your belongings and the metro stations have a lot of stairs from the platforms to the ticket booth level. There is often an escalator from there to the street. Do not try to use the metro anywhere near rush hours. This would mean before 9-9:30 am in your case. A taxi from the bus station to the area of your hotel is a better idea but you might not fit everyone plus luggage in one taxi (also an issue getting from the cruise terminal to the bus station in Valparaiso). Turbus has it's own terminal in Santiago, and inside there is a booth for booking a shared shuttle van, Turtransfer. However, they charge per person and depending on where you are going. It will be about US$8 per person to Providencia.
The other option is a taxi or van from the cruise terminal to your hotel. This can be arranged at the desks in the cruise terminal.
Once you add up the costs for 4 people, you might find it better value and less stress to book something from the cruise terminal to the hotel. A lot would depend on whether you were a family group or sharing costs between 2 couples.
