Copenhagen 5 questions - Tour, hotel and transportation
Posted: Sat January 17, 2009 04:19 AM UTC
My granddaughter (age 12) and I are coming to Copenhagen on the plane on June 10 and leaving by cruise ship on June 12. I can walk some but not long distances.

1 - Is the best way to get from the airport to the city by train?
2 - Would I get to the port by taxi?

3 - I want to do a city tour (preferably on the hop-on-hop-off bus)on whatever is left of June 10th after we get there (leaving the US on the 9th) and continue on June 11th. Is it possible to do that or would I have to buy two days tickets? Is it possible to get the tickets in advance or at the airport, or must I go to some ticket office in the city?

I want go to Tivoli Gardens and I thought we could go there to see the sights and do some rides and eat dinner there on the 11th.

4 - What would be a good and not too expensive hotel which is near enough to either Tivoli or the bus stop for the tour bus so that I could walk to it? I want internet access, and ideally breakfast on the 11th and 12th. Initially I thought the Hotel Astoria but it has no rooms for those dates, and it has a bad review for being dirty.

5 - What should I be sure to see other than what is on the bus tour?

i am writing this from bangkok airport and only have 3 minuted left of internet, so i will try to be quick and come back later.

first of all i would suggest the hop on hop off canal tour by boat.
it takes you to several sights, including the little mermaid, the new opera house and the parlament.

from the airport you can just take the train or the metro.
it's faster than taking a cab and a lot cheaper.

i have listed quite a few cheap options on my copenhagen page, but i will get back with some reviews when i am back in europe in a days time.

We all love grandmothers!

But active grandmothers like you who go on adventures with there granchildren are the best!

1 - Is the best way to get from the airport to the city by train?

Yes!

There are two.

The metro and the Sweden train. Both are faster and cheaper than a cap.

2 - Would I get to the port by taxi?

There is a direct bus to the cruise port. But I woould recomend spending 20 usd on a cap.

Claus is right! Do the canal boat tour. Compine that with walking around the centre and you can see all. Maybe combine it with Round Tower and a picnic in the Kings Garden (kongens have).

The Cab-Inn chain. They have three hotels in Cph (one in my steet). It is by no means luxureous. But is is inexpensive by Cph standards and clean and safe with intenet in the lobby.

5 - What should I be sure to see other than what is on the bus tour?

The Kings garden with the Rosenborg Castle. The old city centre. But do rememebr that a canal tour makes far more sense than a bus tour.

Enjoy Cph!

we stayed at the astiroa hotel
just behind the main rail station in copenhagen and 2mins walk form tivoli
we also walked up to the zoo ( about 20mins ) which was good value
tha shopping area and habour area is in walking distamce from this hotel too as are one or two good museums ( although i can't see a young girl being imnterested in the Military Museum - may be wrong though )
we booked the hotel through "GTA Hotels" but other sites have this hotel, it was good value fro money in my eyes and very central

the SAS hotel looked to be inn the same area too

enjoy copenhgagen - we did
