I hear that the train starting from Aswan>>Luxor>>Cairo>>Alexandria is temporary closed. If I just want to go to Alexandria from Cairo, what else can I take? And the time and fee? thank you.

I don't know the answer exactly but I cannot believe that Cairo to Alex by train is not possible. I think you need to check on this. Also look at the www.egyptrail.gov.eg Egypt rail site.

I went to Alex by the Desert Bus several years ago and returned on the train. I think it took about 3 hours or maybe more ! I fell asleep. The train is comfortable but look for the fast service.
I also recommend the Man in Seat 61 for travel related information. Although it may not be up to date, it is a very knowledgeable web !

The direct sleeper train from Aswan to Alexandria is not currently running. It terminates at Giza Station in Cairo. There is still a service to Alexandria from Cairo departing from Ramses Station in Cairo. This runs approx once per hour.

There are several bus companies that serve this route--the fares are around USD 6 or so. I think that both Superjet and West Delta bus co's have offices in the airport in Cairo as well as in several city locations.

Hi there .. I will only comment here on the Cairo / Alex part: Most people prefer the train to the bus as it is more reliable and is not affected by traffic Jams. The bus is a little cheaper, although I cannot remember how much it costs now & you certainly can pay for it in LEs although no one will object if you offered your USDs (but this will cost you more for no extra benefit !).. There are very frequent trains between Cairo and Alex although most are not direct .. there are 3 or 4 direct trains / day and most people book them in advance to guarantee a place especially in high season (summer and feasts) as well as week ends. A direct trip will take on avarage 2.5 hours to get you to Alex .. The fee for a first class ticket was in the region of LE 40 each way , last year .. I think the superjet was aabout LE 25 - 30 each way .. tourists generally can get ripped off larger summs so be careful and ask any egyptian who hqappens to be buying tickets around you .. They will always help you with the process .. Best of luck anyway !
