São Paulo 3 weeks in South Amercia
Posted: Wed January 14, 2009 06:42 AM UTC
I plan to go 3 weeks to S. Am, but I know time is too short, so I limit to 2-3 countries - Brazil, Argentina, and/or Peru. My options are wide open as I have never been to S. Am. In future, I plan to do another trip to Chile and Antartica.

Question now:
What is the best places to visit among 2 or 3 countries as above with 3 weeks?
Please name the places + possibly transportation (bus, train, plane). If someone can roughly suggests the routing will be much appreciated.

Many thanks !

The better brazilian sight-seeings are: Rio de Janeiro, Foz do Iguaçu, São Paulo/Santos/Guarujá, Florianopolis/Balneario Camboriu, Manaus/Belem,...

The Rio--Foz de Iguacu (2 nights)--Buenos Aires route is popular among first time travellers trying to experience more than one country. Flying would be best because of the vast distances and the short time you have.
You could add:
* a quick flying trip from Rio to Salvador, Bahia or
* some days in the beach villages of Parati or Buzios,(by bus)both near Rio, or
* a few days in the Colonial historic towns in the mountains of Minas Gerais, such as Ouro Preto, Tiradentes, Congonhas (by bus from Rio)
FYI Brazil has no passenger train transport to speak of.

Trying to do too many places in that short time period would be a mistake, IMO, giving that "where am I today?" feeling.

For me, the top three places, all of which I'd try to include, are Cusco/ Machu Picchu, Foz de Iguacu, and Rio. You'd certainly need to fly.
