Salvador da Bahia morro de sao paolo
Posted: Wed January 14, 2009 05:28 AM UTC
Someone reccommended me to spend couple of night in Morro de Sao Paolo (instead of afull week in Salvador de Bahia.
First, I looked at the map and the island is very close to Sao Paolo, but the only way to get there (plane or boat) is from Salvador. Am I right?
Then, I wander if someone can share experience on this place, like what to do (besides continous parties on the 2nd beach..), good accommodation (50-75 USD per rroom per night), how to move from place to place (no cars there..) etc.

morro de sao paolo is quite a distance from salvador, but you have fast ferries these days so the trip can be done in 2-3 hours if i remember right.
you can also fly there as they have a small airstrip on the island.

getting around the place is easy as it's so small that yo can easily walk around.
if you want to visit the other town on the island called gamboa then you can take a boat, but it's worth hiking to gamboa at least one way as it's a nice hike.

Thansks, I see that you know the place.. Am I right that it is closer to Sao Paolo than to Salvadore?

Dou you have any idea where is a good place to stay there? I ha learned that they have 4 beaches and that the quiet one is beach No. 1. Is this the best for finding a paudsada?

First of all there is a misunderstang here. Morro de Saõ Paulo is in Tinharé Island, near Valença city (Bahia). And, Valença is very closer to Salvador and not São Paulo city.

The upper link shows some accommodations/transportation in/to Morro de São Paulo.

As far as I read there is only trecks in Tinharé Island. Take a walk in the island is by foot, horses or farm tractors.

You need to study a good map of Brazil, showing Bahia.

There are 3 popular ways to get to Morro do Sao Paulo from Salvador.
fly 20 minutes
catmaran 2 hours
ferry, bus, boat 4 hours
schedules:
http://www.morrodesaopaulo.com.br/como.shtml
You can also access Morro from the south, from Itacare for example, but this is by using small boats and is a bit complicated.

There are 4 beaches. #1 is in the town, #2 is known for parties, #3 is quieter and #4 is a bit isolated.
map of beaches and town:

Here is a page with many, but not all, pousadas:

General info (what to do):

Enjoy.
