Uruguay Where to visit?
Posted: Tue January 13, 2009 09:25 PM UTC
I plan to do a quick 2 night trip from Buenos Aires to Uruguay - but am not sure whether to head for Colonia, Montevideo or Punta del Este??? Since we will rely on public transport - and its only 2 days - can anyone make any recommendations??? It will be early Feb - so I figure the weather hopefully will be hot........all 3 I realise have beach access. Cheers

Unless you fly, I do not think that Punta del Este would be worth the travel. The most likely way for you to travel is by boat to Uruguay with a stop in Colonia and continuation by land to Montevideo. You could stop in Colonia for an afternoon or overnight. Montevideo is worth more than a single overnight, but your time is limited and two nights with two days of travel is not much more.

Good luck, bob

Hi,
If I don't consider the time (2 nights only) and considering you are comming in early Feb, I'd say Punta del Este.
But, unless you fly from BA to PDE, it's a 6hs journey minimun.
You mentioned "beach access". If that is you main attraction, PDE is the place to choose.
Colonia is a historical site, very beautiful.
You can check www.buquebus.com.uy for prices and schedules from BA to Colonia, Montevideo and/or Punta del Este. Perhaps you find a timetable that suits to you.
