After customs you enter a hall with an ATM and a ‘Bureau de Change’ for changing your money into Moroccan Dirham.
In front of the building, at the car park, are ‘petit taxis’ waiting for passengers. You can’t miss them. The ‘normal’ price for a ride to the city is about 70 / 80 Dirham.
There is also a bus connection with the Jemaa el Fna (must be cheaper, but we didn't use it).
Oh yes, we never felt unsafe during our trip.
Happy travels

Bus 11 runs every 20-30 minutes to the Jemaa el-Fna (buses are infrequent on weekends). The stop is located 800m (0.5 miles) from the airport.
Taxi: There is a taxi rank outside the terminal, with plenty of drivers touting for business. Agree on a price before setting off (a sign outside the terminal will show how much you should pay, roughly). The trip takes about 15 minutes.
The district of Guiliz is not near to the square although it is within walking distance, about 30 minutes at most. A petite taxi will get you there in about 7 minutes. Be sure the driver is using the meter, It should cost about 10Dh. Plenty ATM's all over Marrakech.
Have a good trip.

It is also a good idea to inform your bank that you are going to Morocco, otherwise when you come to use your card, you might find it has been blocked. Banks suspect that your card may have been stolen, and you get stuck without any backup. Its best to bring some cash if you can.

The bus to the Djma elfna is just outside the terminal door!! right next to the taxi rank. Runs every 30 mins to the centre of Marrakech. 20 dirham one way - a few dirham more for a return. Nice new buses.

The 70-80 dirham that Vtveen refers to is for the taxis from the airport - the 10 dirham that windcity is talking about is the estimated cost for a taxi from the gueliz/new part of the city centre into the main centre or Djma elfna.
taxis are quite cheap - 10-15 dirham using a petit taxi with meter for most destinations around the city.
no dont know your hotel sorry.

angiebabe --> So in your opinion it's *cheaper* to take a petite taxi ("10-15 dirham for most destinations") than a bus ("20 dirham") to get to Jemaa el Fna?

10-15 dirham is for most destinations in the old city and between old city and the new city with a 'petit taxi'
20 dirham to get to Jemaa el Fna by bus from the airport

hi Kaspian - yes as VTveen says the comparisons we are trying to clarifying is the taxi and bus to and from the airport - 20 dirham for the bus and 70-80 for a taxi but they will try 150 dirham and see who pays it - and people do
and the 10-15 dirham is for trips around the city to see things eg from the main square/djma elfna to say the Marjorelle gardens or over to Marjane supermarket and so on. not at all comparing the price with a 20 dirham bus from the airport.
hows your upcoming trip arrangements going?!
the dirham when I was there in November was down from 16 to 13 dirhams to £1.

Thanks Angela it put things in a perspective with many people in Morocco living for as little as 50 dirham a day. (Info from one of "windcity" very good pages)

Arrangements are going well! I think a few people who were planning to come are have had to cancel--but that's completely understandable given what's happened to the economy since September. Funny thing is, I was originally going alone but was encouraged by others to post it. A small group (6-10) would be great though! Company's always good--especially Allan. (Group rates are also a bonus!)
