Does anyone know the actual location of a Carmelite monestary (a converted farmhouse) established in October 1568 by Fray Juan de la Cruz?

You are probably thinking of Duruelo. You can get information on Fr. Juan de la Cruz at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_of_the_Cross

You can get information on the founding of the monastery at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discalced_Carmelites

It didn't say anything about the monastery being a converted farmhouse but it did refer to it as a convent. He established it in context with St. Teresa.

Hm. Sure wish the titles were on the Reply Pages. Obviously you know it's Duruelo. I looked everywhere and couldn't get a location in Duruelo but did find a web site for the Discalced Carmelites that would probably give you the information you need. It's in Spanish (I think) and I don't read it so you're on your own. Just find the contact link and ask them for the exact location in Duruelo. They should have it since it's such an important part of their history.

this is what you are looking but in Spanish, trace the whole history of FRay Juan de la Cruz which was his new name after coming to the carmelite order of St Therese

indeed it was at Duruelo, i just translate this part
El 28 de noviembre de 1568 funda en Duruelo el primer convento de Descalzos de la rama masculina del Carmelo Descalzo siguiendo la Regla Primitiva.

In november 28 ,1568 found at Duruelo the first convent of those from the male branch of the order of carmelites following the primitive rule.

Thanks so much for your help!! Teresa's writings indicate that Duruelo started out as a farm house. After posting the question I found a picture of a small chapel that remains but not exactly where it is. I will look at the website and enlist the help of a friend who is fluent in spanish. Thanks again :-)
