Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Lloret de Mar Changing English money to Euros here or there?
Posted: Sun January 11, 2009 03:31 PM UTC
Hi

Going to Lloret de Mar next Wednesday. At the moment the exchange rate at our local travel shop is £1 = € 1.05. (Lancashire, England). How is the rate looking in Lloret?

Not sure whether to change my money here or there? Never been to Lloret before, if better to change there, where is the best place to change my money please?

Thanks
Joan

in my experiences the best exchange is the ATM or cash distributors machines. carry only a small amount of cash from home for misc incidentals upon arrival.

However, your card provider will almost certainly charge you for withdrawals from ATMs (I believe the Nationwide provide a charge-free card, but that is the only one of which I am aware).

What you will pay in withdrawal fees (you need to check with your card provider as to how much, exactly) will probably negate any slightly better rate you get from ATMs.

Check the exchange rate at the Post Office as well as the travel agents. The PO does not charge commission.

I doubt it will be much (if any) better, to be honest. You are still changing pounds for euros, and euors operate at a fixed rate throughout the EU.

well the ATM was good if your bank belongs to global alliance network, I bank in the US ,Spain, and France so my banks are correspondant in the network and do not charge fees at all when I use the local card. Now i do Barclays when I am in Spain, so check them out.
