Good eats and local foods Posted: Thu January 8, 2009 08:24 PM UTC
We are staying at the Cape Grace Hotel, and are "foodies".
Would love to try local fare.
Inexpensive to expensive, just great food that will introduce us to African cuisine.
Thanks

The local food in South Africa is multi-cultural...You can have African food, "Boere kos" which is the traditional food of the Afrikaans community, Cape Malay food,Indian food etc etc.
In Cape Town you will be able to experiance many of these at Resturants on the V+A waterfront..I would however speak to the hotel, and find out more where the places are that the locals eat, ie,not in the main tourist areas.
Hout Bay has a great seafood restuarant on the beach, and I would recommend a trip to Houtbay to experiance this.
There are tourist information brochures at all the main hotels giving you a lot more "food" info.
Enjoy your trip

Here are a couple:

Beware of the nature of "African" cuisine served up for tourists. It is big business with a huge "entertainment" element that includes live performers. . . .
www.nyoniskraal.co.za
www.mamaafricarest.net
www.marcosafricanplace.co.za
. . . none of these places can really be authentic.
