Rental Car in downtown Casablanca to Tangier Posted: Tue January 6, 2009 03:06 AM UTC
Hi there - hoping someone can point us in the right direction.
We want to rent a car to drive up the coast and drop off in Tangier. So one way travel. We would like to rent it in downtown Casa if possible and drop it off in downtown Tangier - same day. We just want to see a bit of the coast and make a few stops. The trouble we seem to find is that we are driving on a Sunday so pickup/drop off seem limited. We can (and would actually prefer) pick up the night before (Saturday) but we still need to drop the car off on Sunday.
Does anyone know of a good, inexpensive rental company that is open Sunday and will rent for one day, one way?
Thanks for the help!!
Looking forward to exploring Morocco!

One way car hire is not very common in Morocco unless you are prepared to pay a bit extra. Your best bet is to use one of the international companies like Avis or Europcar which have offices in both places, and offer this service. They also opperate 7 days a week. With any rental car in Morocco you need to check all 5 tyres befor you set off, We once rented a car that had 2 defective tyres and when one punctured, it cost us time and money to sort it out.
Enjoy your trip

I don't think local car rental companies would settle for a one day, one way rental. They don't like to rent for only one day. Unless of course you are going to pay them enough money to cover all costs, then it might happen.
Make sure you get an all-risk insurance, check the engine oils, tires, etc..

Budget will charge you about 1300 dh (including a 500 dh one-way fee; my recollection is that you need to rent for a week to waive that fee). Mom and pop rental companies are less likely than a chain to allow one-way rentals and on average have worse service.
Your cheapest option is probably to negotiate for a "grand taxi" (six-seater Mercedes) to take you "corsa" (without other passengers) and let the driver that know you want to make some stops. I would guess it would cost about half as much. Don't be alarmed if he borrows your passport in order to register his trip with the police; this is normal.

thank you guys for the great tips. I guess we will wait till we get there to sort it out. Google maps says its around 3 hrs to drive from Casa to Tangier, train says its around 6... so we though - hey, lets drive and see some sights!!
Will check out the taxi... that might be cool too.
Thank you guys again.
4 more sleeps!!

thanks for all your great advice. We ended up taking a first class train. It was perfect. Took it a couple different times actually. If anyone has questions on the trains - give me a shout.
