Directions to Magic Fountain Posted: Mon January 5, 2009 09:39 PM UTC
Hello, Can any one tell us the best way ( bus numbers, walking etc ) to get to the Magic Fountains. We are staying at the top of Rambla near the Playa Catalunya at the end of Jan.
Thanks
Simon and Anna

From PlaZa (Spanish) or PlaÇa (Catalan) Catalunya
PlaYa = Beach ;o))
metro line 1, stop at Espanya
or about 30 min walk
Check first at the tourist info points if the fountain shows are running on your dates. During Winter it only runs on weekends, but during some weeks it will be closed for maintenance.

They are located next to Placa Espanya - Metro Green Line 3/Red Line 1

We walked there from Catalunya and it was a long boring walk - better to take the metro I would say.
One tip - THERE ARE FEW TOILETS THERE! If you must go, and thee is a long queue next to the 2 cafes' toliets, it's quicker to walk to the other end of Placa Espanya to the large hotel and go in there - toilets to the right as you walk in the doors. You might need to buy a drink or something but I got away with it!
Check that the fountains are on when you go - its more restricted in Winter. The web site says.... October - April, Fridays and Saturdays
Music sessions: 19:00 19:30 20:00 20:30

Hello
Many thanks for the info on getting to the Magic Fountains. I think the metro sounds a good option, but can anyone tell me how to buy tickets for it ? And can you buy a 1 day any route kind of ticket ?
Again, thanks for the earlier help,
Anna and Simon

how to buy tickets for the metro?
At the automatic machines in every metro station. They have an English menu
And can you buy a 1 day any route kind of ticket ?
check at www.tmb.net (btw, apart of tickets info and prices, its tourism section has very interesting info and routes)
Therea are not 1-day tickets, but 2, 3, 4 or 5-day touristy tickets, that are rarely worth it, except if you plan to do many trips in these days (very unlikely). A T-10 works usually as the cheaper option, as you can share it (slip the card as many times as passengers at the metro turnstiles or at the buses or trams validating machines).

For the Magic Fountain, just buy a one-way ticket from Catalunya and again on the way back. They are quite cheap and much of the rest of Barcelona is walkable - Park Guell is a fair walk though but you go-along the Passieg De Gracia much of the way which in itself is a lovely walk.
If you already have a multi-ride ticket then fair enough but if it is just for this one journey, buy an ordinary ticket at the station.
