Sorrento to Amalfi by boat Posted: Sun January 4, 2009 04:38 AM UTC
Does anyone know how long it takes to get to Amalfi by ferry, departing from Sorrento? I'm planning my trip the last week of April/1st week of May. Also, are there any ferry transportation websites that have this info (in English)? I've been looking for a while but haven't been able to find the answer to this question!
Thanks!

http://www.metrodelmare.com/
Click the English link.
Takes about an hour and a quarter (with a stop at Positano).

Leics, thanks.
I can't tell from the schedule on the website how long it takes but I'll assume that you know this from experience.
Thanks again

No...I looked at the timetables.
Click on 'timetables' then on 'low season' and scroll down the page.

I took the bus, which is a superb journey and highly recommended.
You could do bus one way and ferry the other.
Bus timetables here:
http://www.sitabus.it/wps/portal/OrariCampania
under 'Quadro 15'.
There are travelogues of the bus journey on my Amalfi page.

the coastal roadway is wonderfull, by sea is much better but more expensive, if you'll be there during saturday/sunday the boat is a must (too many people along that narrow road) but look at sea first, if it will be "rough" you'd better take a bus.

It's the very fact that there is a good deal of traffic along the road (although I doubt it will be terribly busy at the end of April, even at the weekend) that makes it such a good journey to do...the bus has to go slowly, so there is plenty of time to look at the wonderful views, and even to take photos through the bus windows (as I did).
Sit on the right going to Amalfi, on the left going to Sorrento.

I wrote about traffic along the road even I read last week of April/1st week of May because it might be already much more then just warm and local people go to the sea during week-end.
Beside is the best period of the year to go there, lower prices, less crowd, a lot of flowers anywhere... one of the best destination in Italy for honeymoon

Iagreee.
I went last February and will be there again this February. Even at that time of year it is a most enjoyable place to be!
