Re: where to stay Posted: Wed December 31, 2008 10:10 PM UTC
I would wait with booking accommodation and book it on www.wotif.com
In March there is always vacancy in the CBD, and you get good deals.
If you do not want to wait you might want to stay at the Duxton, the Grand Chancellor (make sure you book the one in the city centre), SkyCity, the Copthorne (Quay Street), Hilton, or Quest (on Queen St). If you have the nerves to wait you can get it a lot cheaper than if you book now.
There are also a lot of apartments available in the area, this would be a good alternative.
I suggest you check out some CBD hotels on Wotif to see what is available. Then you can still book them now. If you check them out directly on the hotel website they are always cheaper than the full rate listed on Wotif.
Good and cheaper hotels and motels not far away from the CBD would be in the lovely suburb of Parnell.
"HOW" is the taxi service? It is good and reliable but the fare will almost certainly exceed the suggested NZ$ 45. You rather have to expect $ 50 to 65.
A good option for door-to-door service are the shuttles like www.supershuttle.co.nz They are the biggest company but there are others. The trip would cost you between $ 20 and 26. For groups it costs less.
The Airbus would cost you $ 15 for a single trip to the CBD.
So, if you are more than two people and want door-to-door service you can go for a taxi.
I have listed all transportation options from the airport on my Auckland page.
