Punta Cana Travel Forum

I am getting married in the Dominican Republic in Punta Cana on November 21st 2009. I am planning on presenting my guests with a few gifts but am reluctant to have the items shipped there and then possibly have them get stuck in customs or not be there when I arrive.

I would like to know if I can buy pretty fans, parasols, cigar cutters or cigar cases, cigarette lighters, umbrella's, candles, and bath salts at any of the shops or vendors there.

I am most concerned with the parasols and fans, especially plain/white ones.

I can't find any reference to these items in any of the posts that I've read about shopping in the area,....

These items are needed for my wedding.

Please let me know where I can buy these items in Punta Cana area and for about how much.

Sorry to sound dumb, but parasols as in to sit down under and fans as in electrical fans or Spanish fans (the first kind that came to my mind)?

I don't know much of Punta Cana, maybe you can find most of the stuff at the hotel shop OR the hotel can help you out, but you can definitely buy everything in Santo Domingo. I don't think your things will get stuck in customs if you ship them but I think it might be cheaper to buy the stuff down there. Unless you can buy the stuff and take it with you in your suitcases.

OMG dont buy in the hotels too expensive go directly to santo doming get a nice secretary to get you those stuff and you will spend less money

Trust me, I have been to the Dominican and you won't find half that stuff there. Bring it in your carry-on or appoint someone else to bring the carry-on for you. It costs money to travel around the dominican and the shopping isn't what you think. Even if you find what you are looking for it won't be cheap and it won't be idealy what you want. You will ruin your whole stay trying to buy this stuff as well. Come prepared and enjoy your stay! signed: Been there
