We are hoping to come to Cape Town again in 2009 but we don't know when is the best time. We are thinking of 2 dates: End of September (for 2 weeks) or middle of November (for 2 weeks). We have been to SA before and very much enjoyed whale watching in Hermanus. What is the temperature like in September and November? when would be the best time to travel between these 2 dates? We will also be going to the Kruger, so again what is the best time? I have been given a brief itinerary which includes staying at Arniston (near Cape Augulhas) and then Dolphin Dunes - Wilderness - can anyone comment on this? From here we would fly George/JNB/Kruger - I presume George is an airport? can anyone tell me about this please. All of your help would be great, thanks.

Depending on what you like to do while on hols, bear in mind that there's not a lot outside of water activities in Arniston itself and if the weather is not playing along you could be disappointed. However should it storm. the views from there will be spectacular. We have just done the Kruger in November and it was great though a bit hot, September would have suited us better I think. You are really looking at two opposite climates when you match up time in the cape in spring with a stay in the Kruger at the same time of year.

I would recommend traveling late September. Although the weather will be better in November, Hermanus (a town 1.5 hours from Cape Town) hosts a Whale Festival in last week of September, which is really fun.

Again I would recommend traveling to Kruger during September since the grass is not to brown and dry (so more easy to see animals) and there not too much rain.

Arniston is a must!... cute little town
Rest of itinerary is correct.

Another enjoyable activity may be one of SA's music festivals (most are close to Cape Town). Not sure on dates though. See:

I agree with Chris- Kruger National Park is great between August and October.We were here in August , and it was perfect.
