Hello, I will be in Iceland for 3 weeks starting March 27, with a plan to camp as much as possible. I know it may be cold and rainy, but is there likely to be snow on the ground? or being on the ocean, does it snow much at all along the coast? Also, if I walk out of Vik, (or any other small town) a few miles, would it be all right to pitch a tent in open areas if I walk off the highway? I have been wanting to come to Iceland for many years - and I'm finally going to come! I would like to mostly do walking, and would appreciate any ideas on best area of Iceland to do that in April. Last year we had snow in mid April here in South and that was exceptional. Mostly it is wet and windy. You can tent almost anywhere you like. Email me if you need more info. Welcome!
