Hawaii (Big Island) one week on Big Island in July 2009

Hello dear travellers,

I have one week on the Big Island in July 2009.
If I rent a car from Kona and take my tent with me, is it possible to do some walking near the volcanoes?

Thanks,

Tobi

You may not want to pitch a tent on the volcano, but yes, you will be able to camp on the big island, and you will be able to get close enough to see a volcano.

Try this link: http://wikitravel.org/en/Hawaii_Volcanoes_National_Park

Read down towards the bottom for overnight camping.

Lots of good information at this site.

Hilo is closer to the volcano if that is important to you. You can drive around the island in 1/2 a day.

There are lots of great trails but talk to the rangers and stay to the marked trails.
