Theme Parks @ Gold Coast! Posted: Mon December 22, 2008 02:42 AM UTC
It's been a while since I've been on VT so a BIG HELLO to all the awesome people on VT!! Anyway Im planning a trip to the Gold Coast with my Boyfriend and we are planning on going to Wet N Wild World, Sea World and Movie World and I have a few question that i'd like to ask.
1. Im taking a bag with me with lunch, money, camera etc (ive heard how expensive food can be there!) Can I leave my bag somewhere before I go on the rides? Obviously I cant take them 'on' the ride, so what should I do?
2. Im buying 2 tickets at $150 each for a 5 day pass to the 3 parks. Does this entry ticket include all rides and shows? Or will I have to pay extra at each ride I want to go on?
3. Are the buses quite easy to catch? Im staying right in the middle of Surfers Paradise and we are wanting to catch a bus to the theme parks.
4. Is one day per park enough to see everything if not, most attractions at the park?
5. We are planning to go near the end of february. Do you think this is a good time to go?
Thanks to everyone! and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hi there,
Taking lunch is easy just pack it in one of the freezer zip bags to keep fresh, you can hire lockers at all the theme parks we were there in nov 06 and it costed $7 for small locker that amply held our gear for four. Remember to have coin change when you go it will save you time looking to get change from somewhere.
Transport there is easy, the buses go quite regularly, where your staying should point you in the right direction, if not anyone in surfers will tell you. Remember the theme parks are a good 30 mins away from surfers.
The entry price includes the ride costs i think the only exception is the amusement games and you will be way to busy having fun to play them.
If you get to each park at opening time then one day should be ample, as your not going through school holiday times the time spent in waiting shouldn't be too long.
I see you haven't got Dreamworld included. This is a separate park that is independent of the other three, it would take two days to do this park on its own and has the best roller coaster and tower of terror ride. Its half water activities and half rides.
Just to add a bit extra if finances allow try and catch the RM Williams show called Outback Spectacular. You would need to book in advance and can be done by the net. Its located next to wet-n-wild so try and do both on the same day.
Cheers Heather

Wow! Thank you so much for your reply! You really detailed everything I needed to know. and YES, I didnt realise Dream World! I think I'll be going there instead of Wet N Wild. I checked out the site and Wet N Wilds really not for me. But Dreamworld looks awesome! Thanks again!

With dreamworld it a combination of two parks in one, definately has the best rides out of all three. If your not sure your that much of a thrillseeker then start with Seaworlds rollercoaster. Oh if planning to do any of the special events like swim with dolphins etc it pays to book online as they sell out real quick. For example we did the behind the scenes with the polar bears and only 6 people a day get to do it - there were a few cranky and disappointed people.
Another place in surfers paradise that is heaps of fun for children and adults alike is infinity maze. Its situated in a mall, check out there website http://www.infinitygc.com.au/about-infinity.html don't be put off by thinking its just a maze as each room will delight and the fact it is located in a mall will confuse you.
I can assure you once you have visited surfers you will want to return, a week wasn't long enough for us.
Merry Christmas to you as well,
Cheers Heather

Yes Dreamworld of my favourite....followed closely by Seaworld. I love the dolphin show at Seaworld.
Your accommodation will help you with buses to the theme parks.
Don't forget to do Currumbin Bird Sanctuary while you are there....especially at bird feeding time early morning or late afternoon.
Oh and why not have a fun night at Draculas - www.draculas.com.au
Have fun!!
Cheers, Ann :o)

There's no need to hire a locker if you only have 1 backpack. All of the rides at Dreamworld have tubs/racks to put your bags and valuables in. As you get off the ride you pick up your property. And these are obviously free. Same goes with all other 'dry parks', except the superman ride at MovieWorld, where you have to hire a locker for the ride and queue duration (its $2 i think). Some of the other rides, such ass scooby doo and wildwild west rides at movieworld, you can carry your bags with you on the ride. So I wouldnt bother getting a locker for the day if its just you and your boyfriend.
You will need all-day lockers for WetnWild and WhiteWater World (next to Dreamworld). I think they are around $8 for the day. WetnWild is much bigger and has more slides than WhiteWater World, which only opened 2yrs ago. WetnWild also has 'dive-in-movies' on saturday nights.
You can pretty much knock all of whitewater world over in 2-3hrs on a weekday in February. I recommend getting a ticket to Dreamworld, and then spending $15 to get into Whitewater World after 2:30. You can do this at the shop near flowrider in Dreamworld.
Definitely take time to see the tiger show at Dreamworld - at 12pm and 3:30 i think. Get there atleast 20mins early to get a good spot, or all you will see is the back of people's heads!
Register to www.myfun.com.au for discounts on SeaWorld, MovieWorld, WetnWild and Outback Spectacular.
Hope this helps!!

Hello Jasmine.
The theme parks are very easy to get to by bus.
Buses TX1 & TX2 run about every 15 mins from around 9am just catch them from the bus stop on Ferry Ave outside the Titanium Bar.I think they start coming back from the parks around 2 30pm...Have a look at www.translink.com.au for more details.
As far as food goes technically you are not supposed to bring in commercially prepared food but last week we snuck some Oporto into Wet N Wild & our bags were never checked,we just didn`t eat it in plain view of the staff.I saw plenty of families there with eskys full of food & drinks.
Hope this helps a little
Jamie
