Hotels In Tangier Posted: Thu December 18, 2008 04:36 AM UTC
Hello,
I'm trying to find a hotel (moderate range) that is close to the port so I can avoid the taxis and I can just walk. Any recommendations
Secondly how long is it (train travel) from Tangier to Fez and Fez to Marakesh. Thank you.

Hello,
I would recommend the Hotel Marco Polo, It is within walking distance of the port, clean, comfortable and reasonably priced.
http://marco-polo.ma/
Trains from Tangier to Fes take 5 hours and from Fes to Marrakech 7.5hours, Information, fares and timetable can be found here http://www.oncf.ma/Index_en.aspx
Have a good trip..

Hi, yes Ive stayed at the Marco Polo and recommmend it but I got the price down from first slightly excessive price given to me - and I also or more so recommend the Continental. overlooks the port.
recommend also gettting a Lonely Planet guidebook for low-moderate-high ranges recommended accomm, restaurants and getting out and about info great for preparation and for while you are on the road getting out and about.

Hi In September this year we stayed at El Minzah Hotel an old classic hotel which was being renovated. From our room we had a nice view from our room. Hotel has nice gardens and pool area. Situated 85 Rue De La Liberte , Tangiers. Worth checking the price on one of the web pages.
Good Luck,
Mike

Re: Hotels In Tangier Posted: Mon December 22, 2008 07:36 AM UTC
the Continental is recommended due to its history - Paul Bowles stayed - amongst other known people - but its a hotel regarded for its character and its nice location looking down over the water - the Lonely Planet recommends it for its character and for its lower price - Ive bought quite a few Rough guide guidebooks on various countries during my time here in Europe since first winning one on Spain and finding how wonderfully full of info they are and so many more places covered esp the offbeat places and love them but I dont particularly like the one for Morocco and have never bought one for that reason - I have stayed with my Lonely Planet, the DK Eyewitness guide, loads of other books on Morocco and my own information and experiences for the past 5 years or so.
