Angkor Wat Ho Chi Minh to Angkor Wat

I have about 2 weeks in SE Asia and want to see Vietnam and Cambodia but don't want to spread myself too thin. What's the fastest possible way from Ho Chi Minh to Angkor Wat? Do we have to take the bus from HCM to Phnom Penh AND THEN go to Angkor Wat or is there a direct route from HCM?

Hi
About one month ago I flew directly from Siem Reap to HCMC with Vietnam Airlines, so go check them out.
I don’t know if AirAsia or other airlines also operate that route.
Regards,
Klaus

Spot on. Vietnam airlines flies HCMC to Siem Reap a few times a day. Done it myself in June this year. Flight is less than 1 hour from memory. Can get a Cambodian visa on arrival in Siem Reap with a couple of passport photos and $25 USD.

For bus, yes you have to go via PP - it's 6 hours from Saigon to PP then another bus up to SR which I think is 7 hours. The only airline to do the Saigon-SR is Vietnam Airlines

Guys, I am told that the bus from PP to Siem Reap is around 5 hours and they have a rest stop half way. I will be doing this journey myself in Feb 09 so I gues i will know for sure at that time. Bottom line is, its not a quick way to get from HCMC to SR. As Johnny says, VN airlins is the quickest way to go.

Vanakam.

I recall that Vietnam Airlines flies direct from HCMC to SR several times a week.

I don't know the fare though.

I wouln't recommend the longer route of going thru PP, unless you plan to stay in PP for a few days; if so, do check out essentials like the Killing Fields, the Genocidal Chambers, Royal Palace, Russian Market, etc.

You can either go by bus or boat from PP to SR, both should take 7 to 8 hours. Alternately, you can get a car with driver & do the journey in 4 hours. This'll cost around US$ 85/-, depending on how well you negotiate.

Enjoy yourself in Cambodia, let me know if you want tips on good places for lunch or dinner, etc :)

Cheers.
