Kyrgyzstan Zhambyl (Taraz)

Hi,
we are planning to visit Kazakhstan in January.
Does anybody know how long does it take to go from Almaty to Zhambyl (Taraz) overland and return.

Other queries are:
a) Is this a safe route in winter?


b) Does the route go through Bishtek, and if so would we need Kyrgyz Visas?

As Altyn said, you can avoid the Kirgizstan (and Biskek).
Sometimes, the Kurday pass is close because of snow, but February is better than January.
If you would rent a car (driver and other collected passengers, if you solo with driver than will be more expensive) it takes about five hours.
Bus would drive more than eight hours.

a) The road is well maintained all year round. So you should not worry about it.
b) There are 2 ways. One via Bishkek (in that case you'll Kyrgyz visas, but you will have a chance to make a sightseeing tour here) or turn right while entering a Kurdai town that road will lead you to Merke and Taraz bypassing Kyrgyzstan
