Lindau Lindau to Fussen
Posted: Fri December 12, 2008 11:32 PM UTC
Hi, We want to travel from Lucerne to Fussen. The best way I can see on the map is through Zurich, Lindau and then on to Fussen. We will have rail passes. I have obtained info about each leg of the trip ie Lucerne to Zurich 45mins, Zurich to Lindau 2hrs, Lindau to Biesenhofen 2hrs but I can't get any info Biesenhofen to Fussen other than it takes 4-5hours. Does anyone know the fastest way by train or should we just hire a car? Many thanks.

From Biessenhofen to Füssen you may need about 5 hours on foot, but not by train.
Did you check on http://www.bahn.de?
If yes, did the website, by chance, offer you connections to a place named "Fussenberg"? (This problem shows up about weekly on the different travel forums I frequent.)
There is no "Fussen" in Germany. The correct spelling of the town's name is either "Füssen" or "Fuessen". Try again...

Hi, I tried the spelling you suggested and have now found the right Fussen! The journey is around 50 mins which is what I had expected. Many thanks for your help.

An alternative and more interesting route:
Lucerne - Pre-Alpine Express - Romanshorn - ferry - Friedrichshafen - Lindau - Füssen.

http://www.voralpen-express.ch/site/content.asp?typ=EN&category=Map&lang=EN&art=Sportbahn
Your rail passes will give you a 50% discount on the ferry from Romanshorn to Friedrichshafen. This ferry connects directly the railway stations.

The white building with the clock on its tower is the harbor railway station in Friedrichshafen. Also the home of the interesting Zeppelin Museum

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
From: Luzern
To: Romanshorn
To: Friedrichshafen Hafen
To: Fuessen
To: Hohenschwangau

The timetable has also the ferry times. And the times for the buses from Füssen to Hohenschwangau, the bus stop next to the ticket center of Neuschwanstein Castle.
