My wife and I are traveling to Miami for the Orange Bowl...and will be enjoying Miami for New Year's Eve and then staying the weekend. Can anyone please recommend an affordable, safe hotel that is in close proximity to the beach and other notable Miami attractions?

Check the Miami tourist sites for a list of the hotels. Most any of the hotels on the "strip" are close to the beach. You might be better off not staying at the beach and on the 'mainland' to get a better rate.

While there, you should consider lunch at the News Cafe in South Beach. Just people watch. The first car that turned up after I sat down was a Ferrari F40. fun place, but expensive.

I always stay at the Days Inn at 21st and Collins

I need to dis-recommend the Days Inn. If you have reservtions there and can change them, do it quick. I just got back from there and it has gone seriously downhill since my last visit. I've stayed in some funky places, but this one takes the cake. We changed our room, because the bathtub lining had separated from the bottom and had filled with gross, moldy, black water that squished out when you stepped on it. They moved us to another room that had the same problem only not as large, so we didn't see it when we first looked.

Don't stay there!
